Harmony Day

Harmony Day is held on 21 March every year. This is a special celebration at our school where we recognise and embrace the strength that comes from our cultural diversity. It’s a day to reflect on the shared values of respect, inclusion, and belonging — where every student feels valued and every culture is celebrated.

We encourage everyone to wear orange, the colour that represents harmony and mutual respect.

Meet the teacher

Meet the Teacher is an annual event held early in Term 1 that gives families the opportunity to connect with their child’s teacher and learn more about classroom routines, learning goals, and expectations for the year ahead. At Umina Beach Public School, this event helps build strong partnerships between home and school, supporting communication and collaboration to ensure each student has a positive and successful year.

P & C Day

P&C Day is a chance for our school community to recognise and thank our amazing Parents and Citizens Association for their ongoing support and commitment. At Umina Beach Public School, our P&C works in partnership with staff and families to enhance learning opportunities, fund school projects, and foster a strong sense of community. This day is about celebrating their invaluable contribution to making our school a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive place for all students.

National Close the Gap Day

Close the Gap Day on March 20 is an important occasion where our school community comes together to support equality in health, education, and life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At Umina Beach Public School, we use this day to strengthen understanding, show respect for culture, and commit to working together toward a fair and inclusive future for all Australians.

K-2 Easter Hat Parade

Our K–2 Easter Hat Parade is a much-loved annual tradition at Easter time that celebrates creativity, community, and fun. Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 design and wear their own Easter hats, then proudly parade them for families and friends. It’s a joyful event that brings our school community together to share in the excitement of the Easter season.

Anzac Day

Each year in April, UBPS holds an ANZAC Day Commemoration Service to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of Australian and New Zealand defence personnel, past and present. Our students, staff, and community come together for a respectful ceremony featuring readings, wreath-laying, and the national anthem. This important event helps our students understand the significance of ANZAC Day and the values of remembrance, respect, and gratitude.

Mothers Day

Each May, Umina Beach Public School celebrates Mother’s Day as a special opportunity to recognise and thank the wonderful mothers, carers, and special people in our students’ lives. The celebration includes a P&C run Mother’s Day Stall and other school-based activities that allow students to show appreciation and share their gratitude for the love and care they receive every day.

National Sorry Day

National Sorry Day, held annually on 26 May, is a day of reflection and remembrance for the Stolen Generations—Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families. At Umina Beach Public School, all students participate in learning activities, discussions, and ceremonies that promote understanding, respect, and reconciliation, helping our school community reflect on the importance of healing and connection.

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week, held each year from 27 May to 3 June, is a time for all Australians to learn about and celebrate our shared histories, cultures, and achievements. At UBPS, we engage students in learning experiences and activities that promote understanding, respect, and meaningful connections between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. It’s a time to reflect on how we can all contribute to reconciliation in our community.

100 days of kindergarten

Each year, Umina Beach Public School celebrates 100 Days of Kindergarten to mark a major milestone in our youngest students’ first year of school. In the first week of Term 3, Kindergarten students take part in fun, hands-on learning activities based on the number 100, celebrating how much they have learned and grown since starting school. It’s a joyful day that recognises the progress, confidence, and friendships developed over their first 100 days at Umina Beach Public School.

Education Week

Education Week, held annually in Week 3 of Term 3, is a celebration of learning, teaching, and school communities across NSW. At Umina Beach Public School, we showcase our students’ achievements, highlight innovative teaching and learning programs, and invite families to join us for a family picnic and EdWeek Showcase assembly. It’s a special week to celebrate the joy of learning and the partnership between students, staff, and the wider school community.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week, celebrated each year in July, is a time to honour and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At Umina Beach Public School, all students participate in cultural activities, storytelling, art, and performances that deepen their understanding and respect for First Nations cultures. The week promotes inclusion, learning, and connection within our school community.

Koorana Cup

The Koorana Cup is an annual sporting event where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Umina Beach Public School join our local primary schools and high schools on the peninsula to engage in cultural games and activities and compete in fun oztag round robin competition. The day embraces culture, social connections, teamwork and community, giving all students the chance to engage actively, showcase their skills, celebrate participation and achievement in a supportive and inclusive community.

Book Week Parade

Our Book Parade, usually held during Week 5 of Term 3, is a fun and creative celebration of reading and literature. All students from K-6 are invited to dress up as their favourite book characters and join a parade around the school, sharing their love of stories with classmates, staff, and families. The event encourages a passion for reading, imagination, and literacy in a joyful, community-focused way.

School Support Staff Week

In Week 7 of Term 3, our staff, students and families acknowledge the dedication, hard work, and support these staff provide every day, helping our school run smoothly and creating a positive environment for students, teachers, and the wider community. It’s an opportunity to say thank you to the team that keeps our school thriving behind the scenes.

Fathers Day

Each September, Umina Beach Public School celebrates Father’s Day as a special opportunity for students to recognise and thank the fathers, father figures, and significant male carers in their lives. The celebration often includes a Father’s Day Stall and other activities that allow students to show appreciation and gratitude for the care, support, and guidance they receive every day.

Central Coast Public Speaking competition

This annual event, held at the end of Term 3 each year, gives our HPGE students the opportunity to develop and showcase their speaking, confidence, and communication skills. Selected students prepare and deliver speeches on a variety of topics, representing our school and competing with peers from other local schools. The competition encourages creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to express ideas clearly in front of an audience.

UBPS Mental Health and Wellbeing day

Held annually on September 11 to coincide with RUOK day, this special day is to raise awareness about mental health and encourage meaningful conversations about wellbeing. Students and staff take part in fun and engaging activities designed to help them learn more about mental health, develop coping strategies, and practice kindness and connection. The day also reminds everyone that asking “Are you OK?” can make a real difference in supporting each other.

UBPS World Teachers day

World Teachers’ Day, celebrated each year on the last Friday in October, recognises the dedication and important role of teachers in shaping the lives of students. At Umina Beach Public School, we take this day to thank and celebrate our teaching staff for their hard work, commitment, and passion for helping every student learn, grow, and succeed.

Year 6 mini fete

Each Term 4, our Year 6 students host a Mini Fete as a fun and engaging way to celebrate the final year of primary school. Students organise and run games, activities, and stalls for their peers, fostering teamwork, creativity, and leadership. The event also brings the school community together for a day of fun, laughter, and celebration as we recognise the achievements of our Year 6 students.

Splashathon

The Splashathon is the P&C’s annual and most successful fundraising event, where students take part in a fun, water-based obstacle course challenge to raise money for school programs and resources that benefit our students at UBPS. The event gives students the chance to enjoy a day of excitement and friendly competition, all while supporting their school community.

Kindergarten Early Birds

Kindergarten Early Birds is a transition program designed to help young children prepare for their first year of school. Held in the months leading up to Kindergarten, the program allows children to build confidence, develop social skills, and become familiar with the school environment through fun and engaging activities. It provides a smooth and positive start to their learning journey at Umina Beach Public School.

Presentation Day

Presentation Day, held annually towards the end of the school year, is a special occasion where we celebrate the achievements and successes of our students. During the event, students are recognised for academic excellence, sporting achievements, creative talents, and community contributions. Presentation Day brings together students, staff, and families to honour effort, growth, and accomplishments across the school year.

Volunteer Week

National Volunteers Week is a time to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contribution of volunteers in our school community. At Umina Beach Public School, we recognise the dedication, time, and effort of parents, carers, and community members who support learning, school events, and programs. It’s an opportunity to say thank you and celebrate the positive impact volunteers have on our students and school.

PBL Rewards Day

PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) Rewards Day is a special whole-school event that celebrates our students for meeting the school's positive behaviour expectations, being safe, respectful learners. PBL reward days are scheduled when our Soarer Barrell is full, allowing students to participate in special fun activities and games as a reward for their achievements, reinforcing good behaviour and fostering a positive, supportive school culture.

Our PBL rewards day often means a visit from a very special school mascott, Salty the Seagull, who joins in the celebrations to congratulate students on their positive choices and school spirit. Salty the Seagull reminds everyone of the importance of being Safe, Respectful Learners and brings plenty of excitement and smiles to the day. His visit makes PBL Rewards Day extra memorable, reinforcing that positive behaviour is recognised, valued, and celebrated across our Umina Beach Public School community.

Talent Quest

The UBPS Talent Quest, held annually, is an exciting event where students have the opportunity to showcase their unique skills and abilities in front of their peers and the school community. Whether it’s singing, dancing, acting, or other creative talents, the Talent Quest celebrates confidence, creativity, and self-expression, giving students a fun and supportive platform to shine!

Year 6 farewell

The Year 6 Farewell, held annually at the end of Term 4, is a special celebration marking the end of primary school for our Year 6 students. It’s an off-site evening of fun, food, and dancing, where students, staff, and families come together to celebrate their achievements, friendships, and growth over the years. The farewell provides a memorable send-off as students prepare for the next stage of their learning journey.
